Great Lakes Local Chapter 1(Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair and Monroe counties) meets the last Friday of every month from 7-9pm at Sign Language Services of Michigan Learning Center located at 31507 Harper Ave in St Clair Shores, MI. We have our regular board meeting from 7-8pm. We will have a time of socialization with the Deaf Community, Interpreters and Students and Professional Development from 8-9pm with Professional Interpreters Association.

Demand Control Schema
For Interpreting Work
with Robyn Dean, CI/CT
Sign Language Interpreter often describe their work as "facilitating communication between two languages and cultures". If this is true, and those factors tend to be static, why do we say, "it all depends..." when asked about a hypothetical translation choice or a hypothetical judgement call?
Robyn Dean, CI/CT comes from the Deaf Wellness Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She researched and developed this new way of looking at the work of interpreting and it is transforming the way we look at our profession.
Demand control Schema is a must for anyone taking the interview portion of the NIC, and anyone who wants to understand the psychology of what we do.
Students: Highly recommended. Understand what you are doing now, not later after you "figure it out."
