Shelley Engstrom-Kestel
Region III Representative
Shelley Engstrom-Kestel completed the interpreter training program at Waubonsee Community College in Aurora, IL, in 1993, received her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Governor’s State University in 2008 and her M.S. in Training and Development from the University of St. Francis in 2011. Shelley now works as a freelance interpreter, VRS interpreter, presenter and adjunct instructor in the ASL-English Interpretation Program at Columbia College Chicago.
Shelley is an active member of the profession, consistently seeking ways to learn and grow as an interpreter. She currently serves the RID membership as the Region III Representative. He past professional involvement includes: RID Professional Development Committee (2007-2012; Committee Chair 2011-2012), President of the Illinois Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (2009-2011), RID Legislative Committee member (2011-2012) and as a member of the Illinois Interpreter Licensure Board (2008-present).
Shelley was born and raised in Illinois and currently resides in Manhattan, IL, a small farming community approximately one hour south of Chicago with her husband, Scott, and two teenage daughters, Madison and Paige.
