MIRID Executive Board Meeting Summary
7 January 2012
RID is still in the process of looking for a new Executive Director.
The possibility of offering Pay-Pal services to our membership has been explored. It is not in place just yet.
We have agreed to be one of several organizations sponsoring the next Carla Mathers Legal Interpreting workshop.
The By-Laws were reviewed by two board members and further suggestions have been made for revisions. The vast majority follow the RID’s mandate that we change the name of Local Chapters to sub-committees. Others involve adjusting articles and sections to make the By-Laws appropriately readable. The Board decided that we will have our present By-Laws in print for members to have in hand at the next general membership meeting. Also, we will have the proposed changes in writing for the members too.
The By-Laws committee pointed out items for the Board that we need to keep in mind for the future. One has to do with conducting voting for Board positions in writing, not by raised hand. The other has to do with the Local Chapters/subcommittees submitting a written report of their activities in the prior year to the Board by March 1st of each year.
We have heard from a couple of members who are interested in volunteering for our committees.
The Board voted to move our bank accounts to a more “state-wide” bank with dual signature availability as well as on-line banking and limited or no fees.
We have decided to ask David Evans if he can come on June 2nd to give us his workshop. If not, then we will have him for the fall, and obtain another presenter(s) for the spring.
Check our web-site for information on the new Region III Educational Interpreter Award to be given at each Region III meeting.
The Board is ordering Robert’s Rules of Order, Abridged editions, for each of the Board members.
The next Board meeting will be February 25, 2012 at the Courtside Grill in East Lansing.
Kat Vogtman has been appointed as our Deaf Member-At-Large. She graciously accepted.
