Happy New Year All!

For several of our AC (Affiliate Chapter) President's, the transition period has ended and they (and their Board of Director's) are now hitting the ground running. Good Luck to all of us as we twiddle this learning curve down to master our various responsibilities. I have also decided to include all AC board members in this communication as a means of giving them a "peek" into some of the activities of the R3PC (Region III President's Council). I hope the R3PC does not mind.

There are a few things that I would like to share with all of you. None of the information is confidential and may be shared with our AC members as well.

R3PC 2010 Meeting Schedule:

As you know, one of the duties of each AC President is to attend quarterly meetings of the R3PC. Many issues that affect both the region and have impact on decisions made by our Board of Directors are addressed at these meetings. President's who do not attend these meetings, do not allow the voice of their membership to be heard. The meeting schedule for the next several meetings are as follows:
Sunday January 31, 2010 2p CST/3p CST
Sunday April 25, 2010 2p CST/3p CST
Wednesday July 20, 2010 TBD (Region III Conference Pre-Con)

AC Presidents are reminded they can also designate a representative from their Board of Director's to attend these meetings in the event they are unable to do so.

E-news Reports:

As I reported prior to the Christmas break, I have contacted our N.O. (National Office) staff liaison to determine if changes can be made to the current practice of providing monthly E-news submissions for public distribution. All of the Regional Reps are in the process of scheduling time to discuss this issue. However, last month's E-news article published under my name in the Region III section was not written by me and intended for another place on the R3 (Region III) web page. Since it is close to the submission deadline (the 12th of each month) I have asked NO Staff to place a disclaimer on that article; I will update my December article; and use that as our submission for January. This means you get another "reprieve" from writing E-news articles for this month. (You all owe me big - time, smiles.) I will continue to keep you updated on the status of the E-news reports.

AC 2010 Conference Schedule:

The R3PC has been working hard to coordinate our seasonal conference schedules to avoid the many scheduling conflicts experienced last year. PC members have agreed that AC's will not schedule events which may also prohibit members of the RID Board of Director's from attending. AC's who are planning to host Spring and/or Fall conferences are advised to reserve these dates on our calendar as soon as possible. Dates are assigned on a "first come - first serve" basis. Thus, the following dates have been "blacked out" (meaning subsequent events should not be scheduled on these dates):

- The last weekend in February;
- The first weekend in March (RID Board Meeting);
- The third weekend in May (OCRID Spring Conference);
- The last weekend in May;
- The first weekend in June;
- The last weekend in June (Sister organization event);
- The fourth weekend in July (REGION III CONFERNCE);
- The last weekend in September (RID Board Meeting);
- The first weekend in October (MRID Conference);
- The second weekend in October (Sister organization event);
- The second weekend in November (WISRID Fall Conference)

* Conference events should not be scheduled after the second weekend in November, as this begins the holiday season.*

Chain of Command:

In the past two (2) months there have been two (2) incidents that have prompted the need to address this issue. The first incident involved a member who contacted me to get info regarding RID promotional materials. I spent quite a bit of time researching the issue, emailing the member, emailing NO Staff and lastly contacting staff via phone to get the correct information. I proudly provided the member with the information in a timely manner; only to discover from NO staff that the member had also contacted them for the same information.

A week ago, a similar situation occurred with an AC who contacted me, our former R3 Rep, other AC members, and members of NO staff regarding an unresolved issue. Again, I took the time to research the issue. It was quickly resolved (in fact, the issue had been resolved months ago). But, NO Staff commented on the fact that they received four (4) emails regarding this issue.
Thus, I would like to remind everyone that the Regional Rep serves as the liaison to both NO Staff and the RID Board of Director's. I encourage you to send me any questions or concerns you may have but, do not simultaneously contact NO Staff and additional board members. It adds additional work on the plates of those whose meters are already on "full". I promise to make sure I include all entities who can assist in getting the answers we need. (You can even ask that I contact a particular person to assist in the research.) Also pass this information on to your membership as well. (Thanxs)

2013 in Indy:

BIG HAND WAVE TO INDY FOR GETTING THE NOD AS THE CONFERENCE SITE FOR THE 2013 RID CONFERENCE!!!!!

Things have changed quite a bit since the last time a national conference was hosted in Region III. We now have a full-time staff person devoted to conference planning, so a lot of the work no longer falls in the hands of the local membership. But, there are still opportunities for members to volunteer. (Can you believe I have already received an email inquiring about this?) While all eyes will be on ICRID and Region III leading up to this conference, I know we are up to the challenge.
"Region III Rocks" has become our anthem because it speaks clearly to who we are and what we do. A majority of the members of the RID Board of Directors are from Region III. Thus, our ability to "raise" leaders is outstanding. We have a wonderful track record of providing EXCELLENT professional development opportunities to our membership via local, state, regional, and national conferences. We can and WE WILL continue to show our peers the meaning of "Region III Rocks!"
Go Hoosiers!
New Appointments to the RID Board of Director's:

In a few hours, two (2) new board appointees will be sworn into office to serve in positions vacated by Amy Seiberlich (Region IV Rep) and Jonathan Webb (Region V Rep) . Chris Grooms will serve in the Region IV position; and Dawn Bolduc Townsend will serve as Region V Rep. Elections for all regional rep positions will be held this Spring.

I apologize for the length of this "info sharing" message. Practice will make perfect - smiles.

Many THANXS for all you do as leaders in our professional organization.
