Dr. Brian D. McCartney (July 19, 1950 - April 26, 1998) was the first Deaf Superintendent of the Michigan School for the Deaf from 1991 to 1997. He also served as Interim Superintendent for the Michigan School for the Blind from 1992 to 1997. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Available to working and aspiring Interpreters
If you are studying to become an interpreter or a working interpreter and going back to school, you may win $250 plus a one-year MIRID membership. Requirements for each candidate include: • should be accepted to or planning to enroll in the second year of a sign language or an interpreter training program. • states intent to become an interpreter for the Deaf in a one-page essay. • is a Michigan resident • provides a minimum of two letters of recommendation • has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better |

| The completed application must be postmark by July 31. Mail three copies of application to Martha Meginley, MIRID Scholarship Fund, 3295 N. Baldwin, Alma, MI 48801. Include the application form, letters of recommendation, essay, and transcript. One original and two copies of the transcript are acceptable.
One scholarship is available for this current year. Under the discretion of the Scholarship committee more than one scholarship may be awarded. Contact Martha Meginley for more information. |
